Hands free mice and umbrella-less umberellas...

Yeah. I thought it was crazy too.

I was listening to a tech review on NPR news today, after the radio got left on following the real news...

And heard them talking about pointers and cursors that would move across your screen without a mouse...
(infra-red sensors that follow the pupil of your eyes)

And then they talked about an umbrella that would shoot bursts of air out, so all you would need is a wand, forget the rest of the umbrella.

And it got me thinking.

Are we really that lazy? And even more important. How is all this technology affecting our relationship with our Maker?

Serious thought. I have wondered about this for some time. In Sabbath school, you will likely find me with my netbook, studying along as we go. Same thing at prayer meeting. I haven't gone too wild about it during the church service, but still. I wonder if this digital age has made me lazy, and not as diligent of a Bible student?

What do you think? It's amazing to be able to do a dynamic Bible study, as fast as my fingers can fly over the keyboard. But is it making my brain into mush?

I don't know. But, I know one thing. I am going to start not only seeking God about whether I am becoming lethargic in my spiritual life, and ask Him to help me seek Him with my whole heart, but maybe I'll start using actual books more...

Just thought I'd share. And if you ever get an umbrella that has no umbrella... I'd like to get a picture of it. Might need it for an illustration someday... :D

  1. Schane,

Thank you for sharing this convicting post! I needed it. I too need the Lord's help to seek Him with my whole heart, soul, and mind. That quote is right on. We often get so caught up with the busyness of our lives that we forget that billions are dying unwarned and that it is our responsibility to warn them (see Ezekiel 3:17-21). May the Lord forgive us and awaken us out of our stupor before it is too late!

    1. Amen! I fear it's going to be too late sooner than later... not time to lose...

  2. Despite how much I absolutely love my electronic gadgets and the speed they give to Bible study, there's absolutely nothing quite like studying out of real books. I'm trying to do that more and not be quite so dependent upon technology. Thanks for this reminder. :)

    1. Amen. :) There is nothing quite like a real book to stretch your mind! And nothing at all like God's word in that form!
