The real meaning of Christmas...

Christmas is coming...

They say that He was born on December 25th. (I disagree... but we won't go there. lol)

But what is it all about, anyway?

I've actually had an unusually tough time catching the Christmas spirit this year. It usually excites me to hear the carols, and see the lights, and the snow, and...

Well, this year, it just hasn't. It seems like Christmas has become a familiar occasion, and one that is quite senseless. Mad people, rushing through stores, hoping to find a good deal on something for someone who probably doesn't want it, anyway.

What is it all about?

I've pondered it, and I'll share my opinion with you, if you don't mind...

I think Christmas is about Christ. Not just in the familiar nativity scene. The real Christ, that left the infinite glories of heaven, so I could live.

The God who loved me enough, to come from His spotless throne, and be "born in a barn", and get dirty, so I could have a chance to live with Him, forever.

Because, you see, in His eyes, He just couldn't bear the thought of letting me die.

Even though I deserved it, and He owed me nothing.

So He came, and gave.

All He had.

Hmmmm.....

Yes. That's what Christmas is all about. I think I like Christ's version of it far better than my local Supercenter's......

What if...

What if each person that claimed His name celebrated Christmas like He did?

What if, even for a day, we left our comforts and luxuries behind, and gave all to those who will die if we don't?

What if we lived every day like that?

I think He'd like that.

Merry Christmas, friends.

  1. I've been thinking about that sort of thing for some time... years in fact. It seems to me, that when I have a birthday, it should be a day of serving others, for isn't that what Jesus did? He served us by coming into this world... Yes, Christmas too, should be a time for serving others, yet too often, we place ourselves at the centre of Christmas, rather than Christ. Thanks for sharing... you've got me thinking about it more seriously.

  2. Thank you for sharing on this issue! When we think of Christmas, we should think of how Jesus was willing to live and to be born in the most rough and dirty conditions that He might be able to show the poorest of people, that He had been through the same poverty! So Christmas should be a day of serving others, not ourselves!
