The religion of devils.

Today at church, we talked about the religion of devils.

Did you know that devils are believers?

I confess, I knew about it, but never maybe pondered it much. Who wants to think about the religion of devils, anyway?

Well, I'm not advocating that you ponder the religion of devils. But, it might be a good idea, I know it is for myself, to make sure we don't share it with them.

Here's what I saw in new light this morning:

This is a belief in God that I fear.

It does not require sacrifice or action. A simple assent and proclamation of belief will allow you to join it's ranks. It can enter church, dressed in a suit (or dress - depending...) and happily sit in the pew.

This is not the religion of Jesus. It's the religion of devils.

"Pure religion and undefiled before God and the Father is this, To visit the fatherless and widows in their affliction, and to keep himself unspotted from the world."
James 1:27

That's what I want.

  1. Yes, pure religion requires action. This post reminded me of a quote that I read this morning: "True religion is obedience to all the commandments of God." TDG 322.2 (EGW). That means loving God with all our heart, soul, strength and mind, and our neighbour as ourselves, and that requires action. Thank you for sharing.
